Proofreading is the final task before your book is ready to be released into the wild. As a proofreader, I check for grammar and spelling errors, but also for consistency in style and formatting. I go through the manuscript once, and proofread it while I’m at it. I use MS Word and the “Track Changes” function, so it’s easier for you to see the changes I made, and you can accept or reject them.
I will never proofread a book I’ve edited. The main purpose of proofreading is to have a fresh set of eyes look at the manuscript; if I’ve already edited it, then I’m not the right person for the job.
My usual turnaround time is 3-4 days for manuscripts below 20k words, and a week for larger manuscripts.
If you have a rush job you want me to finish faster than my usual turnaround time, then get in touch, tell me what you want, and I’ll give you a price quote. My fastest turnaround time for rush jobs is 48 hours.
If you’re a publisher, I’m available to work for fees + royalty percentage as well.
